Itinerary
day 1
We begin the tour to the Uyuni salt flats in a Toyota Land Cruiser 4WD jeep from the city of Uyuni in organized groups of 6 people maximum at 10:30 am.
The first stop is the haunting “Train Cemetery,” located just outside Uyuni. See Bolivia’s first locomotives and learn about their history, which connected several important cities. Now, weathered by time and the strong, salty winds that sweep across this desert region, it makes for an excellent backdrop for photographs.
Next, we’ll visit the small settlement of Colchani (salt miners’ workshops next to the salt flats). There you’ll also find handicrafts made from salt and textiles crafted from llama and alpaca wool. These make excellent souvenirs to take home. As we enter the vast white salt flats, which sit at an altitude of 3,650 meters above sea level, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to take photos. Walk through the “Saltwater Springs” and visit the flag plaza and a hotel made entirely of salt, which now serves as a museum and restaurant.
After a morning of exploration, lunch will be served here. In the afternoon, we will visit “Incahuasi Island,” also known as “Fish Island.” There, you will have time to hike to the top of the island to see giant cacti and rock formations made of petrified coral.
Then take some time for fun photos with distorted perspective and proportions, set against the dazzling white surface of the salt flats. By playing with the scene, you can be sure to take some fun and memorable photos!
Finally, head to a spacious area to experience the unique sight of a beautiful sunset over the salt flats, spreading its dazzling colors across the Salar de Uyuni, and enjoy it with a glass of wine and some snacks.
Arrival in the village of Atulcha for dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.
El hostal de Atulcha cuenta con habitaciones de 2, 3, 4, 5 y 6 camas con baños privados y ducha caliente.
