General Description
The Qeswachaka Tour – Last Inca Bridge takes you to see the only suspension bridge made of plant fiber still preserved in Peru. Its name comes from Qeswa (braid) and Chaka (bridge), and it is an impressive cultural legacy from the time of the Incas.
During the Inca Empire there were more than 40,000 km of roads, known as the Qhapaq Ñan, where tunnels and bridges made of plant fiber were built to cross the rivers and mountains of the Andes.
Today, the Q’eswachaka bridge is the only one that continues to be renewed every year for more than 500 years, through traditional rituals performed by four communities in the province of Canas: Huinchiri, Chaupibanda, Choccayhua and Ccollana Quehue.
